I’ll design it, assemble it, do all the editing and graphics, the whole shebang, with state-of-the-art Adobe Photoshop and InDesign. I’ll even write it, if you want me to.* I’ll give you a digital file for a periodic publication you’ll be proud to have your name on and to distribute.
Copy editing includes the above processes, but involves more extensive alterations to aid comprehension. I may rewrite significant portions of the document. In other words… I will ensure that the reader gets your message.
Your card or brochure is often the first image potential customers have of you and your business. And you know what they say: You only get one chance to make a good first impression. I’ll design a card or brochure that will catch the eye, show who you are, what you do, and why customers should take a closer look at you—all in one compact space and without looking cluttered. This process involves correcting errors in spelling, syntax, grammar, formatting, subject/verb agreement, that sort of thing. In other words… I’ll fine tune and fact-check your document.
Documents needing proofreading only are typically well written and contain only one or two errors per paragraph.
This is how you let the world know what you're up to. Well, after Twitter. You tell people about new products or services, or special events. My press releases have an excellent record of generating articles and mentions in major publications locally. In other words… I'll get the word out!
With continued use, presentations and manuals can suffer “growing pains” as sections are added, removed, or changed. A handout may no longer be in sync with the PowerPoint presentation. Manuals that were identical in format may take on a ragged look. I’ll align everything, make sure type styles are consistent, etc. And I’ll proofread along the way. In other words… I’ll make sure your presentations and training materials maintain a polished, professional look.
Ads and web copy, letters and press releases, white papers and brochures, whatever document your business requires. I can do the research if you like,* or use what you already have. Whatever you need, I’ll deliver a document you will be proud to put your company’s name on. In other words… Tell me what you need, and I’ll give you copy that gets the job done.
I don’t provide you with my work, I provide you with yours. It will have your tone, your personality, even your sense of humor.
And I can do what a lot of writers can’t. I write for the end-user. I will take even the driest, most technical language and concept, and word it so anyone can understand and actually enjoy it.
This process includes proofreading, but goes a step further, making some minor changes. In other words… I may alter phrasing to improve the flow and readability of the document.
I will also check for consistency in style, text and chart/figure agreement, page numbering, check footnoting for proper formatting and citation of references, and other details.
Documents that require light editing only are typically well written and have few errors, but need a little tweaking to more effectively deliver the message.
