Why?
In 1982, local businessman Peter Hess noticed that many of his associates were frustrated with the same basic question. How was their business doing? Was it profitable? If not, why not? As Peter worked to help them gain a better understanding, Business Management Company, now know as BMC, was born. The foundational passion of BMC continues to be helping small businesses get started, and providing business owners with the financial and tax knowledge vital to profitable operation and continued success.
We believe in providing you, the business owner, with the tools and understanding necessary to fully manage your company’s financial health. At BMC, you don’t just receive a tax return and financial statement; you receive a personal level of care with nearly 30 years of financial wisdom and insight.
Our Company
BMC is an acronym for Business Management Company, Inc., a full-service accounting firm that has been serving the Maryland, Virginia, West Virginia, Pennsylvania and D.C. area for more than 28 years.
BMC offers a full range of accounting services, including monthly books, payroll, accounts payable, professional income tax preparation, business and financial consulting, business management services, financial planning and insurance.
We currently provide services to more than 450 businesses and well over 1000 individual clients in 25 states and 4 foreign countries.
We specialize in small business, understanding the difficulties that can occur operating your own company. We combine many years of experience, extensive business savvy, dow-to-earth friendly, personal service, accessibility, and affordability to help you reach your goals and to maximize your company’s profitability. Our Services
Monthly Bookkeeping
We do books for hundreds of our clients, which includes assimilation of all material, balancing checkbooks, preparation of Balance Sheets and Profit/Loss statements, prior year comparisons, and an overview and report on the monthly and year-to-date status of the company.
Payroll Services
BMC offers payroll services for any size company. One paycheck is not too small for us. We file all payroll taxes – timely. We file all monthly and quarterly reports, and year-end W2’s and reconciliation reports. Our offices are easily accessible for pick up if needed. Direct deposit and remote check printing are also available for your convenience.
Outsourcing
A number of our clients have us pay their bills, too. 
Bill paying is done professionally, quickly, timely, and inexpensively. For only 1-%-20% of the cost of an Accounts Payable clerk or secretary, BMC can handle this ungainly chore. Our “Remote QuickBooks” feature allows you access to your financial information anywhere you can get an internet connection.
Tax Preparation
BMC prepares nearly 1500 income tax returns each year, Corporations, Partnerships, LLC’s, Trusts, Estates, Non-Profits, and individuals. They are done professionally, timely, and at extremely reasonable fees.
Business Management Services
Occasionally, a client needs us to spend time on site – reviewing in-house work, managing in-house work, or trouble-shooting. When needed, these services are available. We also have a few clients for whom we operate their businesses from our offices.
Business Consultation and Startups
We specialize in helping new businesses get started, from determining what entity to operate under, filing LLC paperwork, to getting appropriate ID numbers, and everything in between. We work with existing businesses helping them with growth moves, company benefits, business investing, etc.
Insurance
BMC Insurance offers insurance products and consultation to cover all your personal and business insurance needs with the same integrity and dedication to serving the customer that you have come to know from Business Management Company. For health, home, life, auto and business insurance, BMC Insurance is an independent insurance agency working with the top rated and most competitive insurance carriers in the country.
Financial Planning

Payroll Services
Even if you only have one paycheck to write each pay period, it’s still complicated. Taxes not only have to be deducted, but filed with the IRS, along with the monthly, quarterly, and year-end reports and W2s. BMC will handle it so you just have to pick up the checks and other paperwork. Or we can set you up to print out the paychecks from wherever you are.
Tax Preparation
This needs little explanation. We all know what a pain taxes are, business and personal. Don’t worry, we’ll take care of it. S-Corp, LLC, Trust, Non-Profit, Personal, we’ve done it all.
Business Consultation and Startups
BMC loves helping new businesses get going! We know the questions you need to ask and we have answers for you. Should you incorporate? Or be an LLC? Or maybe you should be a non-profit? Did you know we’re an independent insurance broker, too? If it has to do with your and/or your company’s finances, BMC’s got you covered. Health, home, life, auto, business, we’ve got it. We even cover you probably never even thought of! Sure, you’ll want your business covered, but what if you are your only employee and something happens to you? Your income could drop to zero and that isn’t covered under your business insurance policy. Home based business? If a client trips, or if your plumbing breaks down and you’re flooded out, you’re home owner’s insurance isn’t going to help you there. We’ll go over everything with you and find what you’ll want to have and what you don’t need.
