DNA-Centric Grocery Shopping

Jul 1, 2015 | Health and Life Style

Did you know different DNA responds to food differently? It also has different supplement needs. You know how they say women should always take extra iron? Not me. Based on blood work, I’ve been told to make sure my multivitamin does not have extra iron. It’s in my genes.

There’s this site now that lets you see that. So, now that we know this, how do we use it? Very few of us know what our DNA is telling us. There are hundreds of brands out there. How do we know which one to choose? Well, Fredric Abramson of Digital Nutrition is developing an app that will tell you. You’ll scan the label and the app will tell you if that one is going to be best for your body.

We were talking about it on my radio show (6/16/15). It should start beta-testing around the first of the year (I’m going to be one of the beta-testers!). Right now it’s just for supplement bottles.  But within the next few years, it should be able to do that not only with packaged foods that have a bar code, but even for things like produce.

How great is it that we are finally harnessing the power of genome mapping for good!
