That vs Which

Does it matter?  Can’t you use them interchangeably?  Yes, it does and no, you can’t.  Most grammar sources will tell you that is used in restrictive clauses and  which is reserved for non-restrictive clauses, which is great if you know what restrictive and non-restrictive clauses are.

Lawyers or Media, Which is Worse?

An article in yesterday’s paper says the officers charged in Gray’s death claim their rights have been denied them. One says she was not not Mirandized before giving her statement. And then she was called back in again for more questions. Attorneys for all six say their clients “provided statements under duress because they feared losing their jobs.”*

"Rich Dad, Poor Dad" by Robert T. Kiyasaki

The subtitle of the book is: What the Rich Teach Their Kids About Money that the Poor and Middle Class do not!  This is a must-read. It’s a must-read. If you have not already made millions on your own and you have any interest in having more discretionary income, if you incur more debt whenever you buy a high ticket item, if the more you make, the more you pay, you have to read this.

Why Your Kid Should Play Team Sports

I think everyone knows physical exercise is good for kids. Well, good for everybody, but it has a strong affect on a child’s development. But did you know it helps develop the mind as well? This has been well-documented; moat child experts pretty much acknowledge this now. Dr. John J. Ratey wrote an experiment where kids were given the opportunity to come to school early to run for about a half hour.

"One Day We’ll Dance Again" by Angela Brown Ware

This is Angela Ware’s account of watching her son die and then putting her family back together. Her 6-year-old son is diagnosed with brain cancer. I was very hesitant to read this one. Unfortunately, there are many books of this type and most of them try very hard to infuse their stories with as much emotion as possible. As a result, they often come across a bit mawkish, so it almost doesn’t feel tragic.

Overwhelmed by Social Media?

If you’re in business and have not been living under a rock, you know social media has become one of the strongest marketing tools available now. It’s probably not the death knell to mail, newspapers, or television and radio ads that many are saying it is, but if you want your business to grow, you must use online marketing sites, such as Facebook, LinkedIn, Pinterest, and Twitter. You cannot do what’s been working for you for years; it won’t anymore.
