Appreciate What is Around You
As I was getting back into my car in the mall parking lot, the guy sitting in his care two spaces away (no cars in between), said, “You’re beautiful!” He was well past middle age and he just had this big ol’ smile on his face. Not leering, just enjoying looking at what he considered to be a beautiful woman.

And we were. This time. There have been women’s movements all throughout modern history. The Boston Girl tells the story of a woman who liberated herself when there wasn’t a movement.
"Invisible" by James Patterson and David Ellis
I love James Patterson! The first review I posted here was Miracle on the 17th Green, one of his more atypical stories. Invisible is not my favorites of his. It’s a good story and it’s well written, I just found several unsatisfactory resolutions. A word of caution: It’s the goriest one of his that I’ve read.

You have to have heard of The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins. It hasn’t become quite as much a part of the vernacular as Harry Potter, but when the first book came out in 2008, it was an instant best-seller. The other two books in the trilogy met with almost the same enthusiasm. And then there are the movies. Huge hits, all of them.
How Do Parents Stay Sane?
Last weekend, my brother and 7-year-old nephew were in town. While my brother went to his high school reunion, I had Sam for the night. He would have been quite happy to play with all the different sounds on my keyboard all evening, but I thought it would be a good idea to feed him, so we went out for pizza. My brother had left the car seat with me, so with Sam in the back seat in his booster seat, I drove us to the pizza place.
We Need More Silly
My philosophy is that, with jeans, any socks go with any outfit. I like to get creative with my socks. Every winter, I go to Target and get several pairs of the most colorful, interesting socks I can find (that are in colors I like). It’s usually just stripes or patterns, but I have narwhals on one pair this year. My socks are always very popular with people who see them.
